Many parents all over the world are feeding their little ones with HiPP baby Formula, one of the leading organic baby food brands on the market, but did you know that their formulas may differ depending on the country?
HiPP makes some of the best organic baby food and formulas available and have almost 100 years of experience. Their formulas contains both the European Organic certified & the HiPP Organic Seal.
While each variety is packed full of quality organic ingredients, and all of the vitamins and minerals that a growing baby needs, the nutritional content may differ slightly to cater to the demands and markets of different countries.
Keep reading to find out what the differences are between HiPP German Formula and HiPP UK Formula.
To begin, let's look at what each variety of baby formulas has to offer.
HiPP German formulas are enriched with nutrients like probiotics and prebiotics (galactooligosaccharides / GOS), essential fatty acids (DHA and ARA), minerals, and vitamins A, D, and C. This formula comes in the following stages: Stage PRE and 1 for babies 0 to 6 months, Stage 2 for 6+ months, no starch stage 2 for 6+ months, Stage 3 for 10+ months, Stage 1+ for 12+ months and Stage 2+ for 24+ months.
When it comes to HiPP UK formulas, the HiPP Combiotic line is the most popular. This formula comes in three stages which are HiPP UK Stage 1 First Infant Milk, HiPP UK Stage 2 Follow on Milk and HiPP UK Stage 3 Growing Up Milk. They all contain Prebiotic fibers (GOS), Omega 3 & 6 LCPs (DHA & AA), as well as vitamin D, vitamin C, calcium, and iron.
Both UK and German HiPP formula varieties are made without harmful chemicals, pesticides or antibiotics and are free from GMOs, artificial colors and preservatives, and aromas or flavor enhancers. They both contain many essential vitamins and nutrients such as ARA (Omega-6) & DHA (Omega-3).
All HiPP formulas are made to be nutritionally complete and come in multiple stages that cater to the nutritional needs of a growing baby at each period of development. Some of the similar finest organic ingredients that can be found in both varieties include organic vegetable oils, and organic skimmed milk.
In addition to containing top quality nutrients, both formulas are also made using sustainable farming practices and are free from common allergens such as gluten, soy, peanuts, and eggs.
Although, as mentioned above, there are a few key differences. The first is the addition of prebiotic or probiotic and the second major difference is the use of starch as a secondary carbohydrate source alongside lactose. Let's take a closer look at both differing factors!
Each stage of HiPP UK baby formula contains essential prebiotics, which help too regulate and maintain healthy digestion for your baby, but they do not contain probiotics.
HiPP German baby formula is enriched with both prebiotics and probiotics. HiPP German contains natural probiotic lactic acid cultures originally extracted from real breast milk. Probiotics help support a healthy immune system by maintaining digestive health.
HiPP UK formula does not contain starch, whereas the German stage 2 and 3 formulas do contain starch. The german version does also offer a starch free stage 2 formula.
Since starch does have benefits such as being an effective and safe way to increase calories and enhance the texture of a formula you may be wondering why HiPP UK does not include this ingredient in their formula?
This is because the preparation is intended to be more similar to breast milk (which is naturally free from starch) and allows for a gentle formula for those babies with sensitive tummies. Some little ones, particularly newborns and young infants sometimes struggle with digesting starch at first, due to it being a complex carb.
This may cause colic, constipation, bloating and gas. Although this is not a cause to worry and many babies do very well on formulas that contain starch and are able to digest starch correctly right from birth!
For this reason, the UK version may have advantages if you are in the market for a formula that is suitable for a baby with a sensitive tummy and digestive upset.
It is always best to consult your pediatrician prior to switching your infants formula or for any questions you may have about your baby's diet, as they may have a medical need that requires a speciality formula or another alternative.
