Breast milk is the most healthy food for a baby beginning from birth. This is why Holle recommends breastfeeding. If a mother is unable to breastfeed, the company’s formula will provide complete organic nutrients that can fully substitute breast milk.
Holle organic formula contains only raw ingredients and does not allow any chemicals or preservatives, flavoring, coloring, added salt, or refined sugar.
You prepare the formula just as any formula. Boil the right amount of water and let it cool, add the corresponding amount of powder using the measuring cup and mix it by shaking or stirring. You can find the English preparation instructions in our support center.
Holle comes in 400g (14.1 oz) boxes, which make approx. 100 fl oz of prepared formula. Please check the box for age-appropriate preparation recommendations. You’ll find the English version on our product page.
Holle produces in the border region of Germany and Switzerland. The organic certification Demeter requires producers to obtain ingredients from Germany.
The shelf life of our boxes is at least six months from the date of order. On average, one box (400g/14.1oz) makes approx. 20 bottles. This number depends on how old your baby is and how much formula they need.
Holle Pre, stage 1, and stage 2 contain 1.4µg/100ml (3.5oz) and stage 3 and 4 contain 1.6µg. If your baby eats the recommended amount they ingest the right amount of vitamin D. If they don’t you should talk to your pediatrician and think about supplementing in addition, especially during winter months.
Depending on the stage of the formula the calories range around 66kcal/100ml (3.5 fl oz). The nutritional value varies slightly from each stage. Please check our product page for more information on this.
Formula should always be prepared freshly and leftovers should not be heated up. They can be stored in the fridge for a couple hours, however, let it warm up to room temperature before feeding it to your baby.
You probably notice the Demeter label that the Holle formula carries, but have you ever wondered what Demeter stands for? Demeter certification system is used to verify that products are grown by biodynamic methods. Besides being organic, Holle baby food also has an additional Demeter certification, thus guaranteeing even higher quality levels in growing and processing ingredients. That is why the Demeter logo and the EU-Eco logo on the packaging prove that the company ensures the best possible product safety from the start.
Since the Demeter certification requires obtaining ingredients from biodynamic farms located in Germany, Holle formulas are produced on the border between Germany and Switzerland. All products are made from biologically and biodynamically grown ingredients, which means:
Differently from many organic manufacturers, the company provides Holle formula based on goat milk for those having issues with cow’s protein digestion or allergic anamnesis. The fat molecules in goat milk are smaller than those in cow milk, and it is more easily digested by both adults and babies. It is still extremely rich in calcium and nutrients for strengthening the bones and joint health.
Goat-milk based baby food is full of nutrients, amino acid tryptophan, so it is great for the nervous and digestive systems as well as for physical infants' development.
Holle formula includes A2 beta-casein protein for easy absorption. Unlike goat milk formulas, there is palm oil, and DNA derived from fish oil in the composition of the cow milk-based food. Holle infant milk is as close to breast milk as possible without a bitter taste.
In the US, most infant milk isn’t divided by age, while the Holle formula is categorized according to a child’s growth and age. This means you can have more control over your child’s diet. Here is the stages' breakdown:
Goat-milk formula stages are divided:
Carefully selected and grown ingredients are a must-have and, fortunately, the selection of ingredients in Holle formula meets all requirements needed for a baby's health.
Lactose is a carbohydrate found in breast milk that is broken down into the small intestine into glucose and galactose — the main suppliers of energy and brain tissue formation. Lactose in baby food serves as the main carbohydrate. It is necessary for the assimilation of such important trace elements as calcium and is also one of the main sources of energy received during digestion.
Maltodextrin is used as a thickener for food in the stomach of a child, which prevents it from regurgitation. Maltodextrin is a carbohydrate that is easily broken down by the baby's organism into glucose. It is the same energy source as milk sugar lactose, which is needed for muscles, all organs to work actively.
Palm oil is saturated nonessential fatty acids, in particular palmitic acid, which serves as the main component of human breast milk fat. The palm oil used in baby food goes through many stages of processing and control, which increases the benefit of palm oil in baby food compared to other products.
Probiotics have a beneficial effect on the child's organism, forming a full-fledged barrier of the intestinal mucosa. Prebiotics are indigestible food components that stimulate the growth and activity of certain strains of bacteria in the colon.
It is the main carbohydrate-polysaccharide of plants that is present in cereals, legumes, vegetables, and fruits. Once in the kid's organism, it turns into glucose, which is one of the most important sources of energy.
